This involves locating selected points on the ground from aerial images, maps, GPS units, and running compass lines, and measures distances. Records plot and tree measurements such as: number, size, age, quality, and condition of sample trees. Identifies woody vegetation and invasive plant species on plots. Classifies stands according to forest type, age, size, and site index. In addition, records physical characteristics and use of the plot site, including mapping various land uses or conditions. The incumbent contacts landowners, county and state offices, and others to collect information to determine land ownership and access. The incumbent will be responsible for equipment, interpretation of the field procedures manual, data collection, data accuracy, and safety. Crews work solo or with a partner gathering inventory data from a variety of source such as: instrument readings, observations, and site inspections.
