Job Title: Forestry Technician (Fire) Company: Interior, National Park Service Location: Marble Falls, AR Description: AREA INFORMATION Buffalo National River was established in 1972 as the country's first national river, the park protects 135 miles of river from near its origin in the Boston Mountains to the confluence with the White River in Northwest Arkansas. Nearly 100,000 acres in size, roughly one third of the park's land base is designated wilderness. Heavily wooded and extremely rugged terrains are found throughout the park along with numerous hidden caves and waterfalls. There are over 100 miles of maintained trails for hiking and horseback use. There are two developed campgrounds and eight primitive campgrounds throughout the entire park. Of the two developed campgrounds, only one offers amenities such as water and electricity hook ups for visitors. There is one visitor center in each of the three districts, two of which are staffed and open to the public year round.   Duty Station is located Marble Falls, Arkansas, formerly known as Dogpatch, Arkansas. The nearest town is Jasper, AR which offers most services found in small towns, such as a grocery store, hardware store, several small restaurants and K-12 public schools. Marble Falls is approximately 60 miles south of the Arkansas-Missouri state line. Harrison is located 30 miles east and has a population of approximately 14,000 people. Harrison offers K-12 schools, a community college, restaurants, shopping, groceries, a movie theatre, a performing arts theatre, a hospital, and specialized clinics. Job Title: Lead Forestry Technician Fire Company: Location: Crossett, AR Description: Incumbent performs wildland fire fighting work and leads crews performing such work. These may be engine crews, helitack crews, hand crews (e.g. Interagency Hotshot Crews (IHC)), or prescribed fire crews.  These crews perform work directly related to wildland fire suppression and control activities including suppression, preparedness, prevention, monitoring, hazardous fuels reduction, and prescribed burning. Gathers and considers information on weather data, topography, fuel types, and fire behavior in responding to wildland fire incidents.  Makes initial evaluation of fire situations, determines rate of spread, potential hazards to property and other improvements, suppression methods to sue, hose lays, deployment of crew, point of initial attack, type of tools to use and application of water. Serves as working leader with responsibility for instructing crew members in specific task and techniques; conducts on-the-job training; distributes and controls work assignments among employees; assures timely accomplishment of assigned tasks; maintains work notes and records; and reports on work accomplishments.  Maintains records of fire time and attendance, work done by fire crew, etc. Assesses situations and makes recommendations for carrying out various firefighting tactics. Participates in fire and safety training of fire suppression and in the safe operation of tools, equipment, and vehicles used in fireline activities.  Participates in crew proficiency checks and drills, safety sessions, and fire critiques.  Ensures own and other’s welfare and safety in all aspects of the assignment. Performs other maintenance and resource management activities such as road and trail maintenance, habitat manipulation, and miscellaneous equipment and facilities maintenance.

Job Title: Forestry Technician Lead Fire Company: Location: Marble Falls, AR Description: Assists in all aspects of wildland fire management operations (i.e., preparation, ignition, monitoring, holding, mop-up, suppression, and rehabilitation). Collects fire weather data and fuel and/or soil moisture samples. Provides records, including fire reports. Prepares portions of prescribed fire plans, fire management plans, and fire monitoring plans. Identifies herbs, shrubs, trees, and associated data for NPS use. Leads crews in the completion of resource management and fire management projects.

Job Title: Forestry Technician Company: Location: Saint Charles, AR Description: Plans and carries out systematic forest resource surveys and inventories of bottomland hardwoods to collect field data for the preparation of both long and short-range management prescriptions. Performs technical work in support of the management, conservation, development, utilization, and protection of forest and wildlife habitats. Participates in various programs by providing information to the general public, hunters, and checking permits. Collects data from field investigations in support of station or program function and performs technical analysis to determine appropriate actions.
