Description:
MAJOR FUNCTION Performs duties conducting routine collection, evaluation and quality assurance review of air/water sampling data; monitoring of incoming solid waste at disposal facilities; and the routine installation, calibration, maintenance and operation of related instruments and equipment. MAJOR DUTIES Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below. Performs technical field work such as environmental gardening, planting, care and maintenance of desired plants and removal of undesired plants with manual and herbicide methods at assigned sites. Acts as a lead worker, keeps, records, makes reports and supervises lower level employees as necessary. Assists with or conducts wetland monitoring events using statistical sampling methods. Participates in various activities on wetland areas, including exotic and nuisance plant control, trash cleanup, site assessments, and re-vegetation of sites. Assists with researching background information on mitigation sites for maintenance history, monitoring reports and project management history. Performs other related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Working knowledge of environmental sampling and collection methods. Working knowledge of environmental data collection and recording procedures. Working knowledge of laboratory equipment operation and maintenance. Skill in the use and operation of environmental data collection and recording instruments and equipment. Skill in the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment. Ability to identify and differentiate hazardous, non-hazardous, and recyclable solid waste material. Ability to use a computer terminal and programs to enter data and generate reports. Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of others. Ability to collect, organize, and evaluate data and to develop logical conclusions. Ability to work effectively with others. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Note: Minimum Qualifications MUST be attained before the recruitment ending date. Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; andOne year of experience in environmental inspection or evaluation, six months of which involved wetland work;andPossession of a valid Driver License.ORAn Associate's or higher degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a Natural Science; andPossession of a valid Driver License. We are currently seeking an Environmental Technician to be responsible for identification, removal, packaging, transportation, and disposing of various hazardous materials in compliance with proper procedures for hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling and management. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Pick up and transport waste safely according to all federal, state, and local rules and regulations. Labeling of containers, and completion of pre-printed manifests and workorders. Performs warehouse work related to receipt, shipment, storage, distribution, or delivery of waste materials. Loads, unloads, moves, or stores items according to delivery or routing documents, or supervisor instructions and performing general housekeeping duties. Operates a hand truck, forklift, or other heavy equipment. Conducts lab pack operations. Packs small laboratory containers of chemical waste into larger containers for shipment. Performs various regulatory compliance and safety tasks. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. JOB REQUIREMENTS:  Education and Requirements: Education equivalent to Associate’s Degree in science or related field, demonstrating knowledge of Environmental and Regulatory rules and requirements. Maintain high-end relationships with client(s) with positive, professional leadership skills a must. Demonstrates the ability to manage accounts on a daily basis. Completion of an accredited driving school, or previous Commercial Driving experience required. Previous route management experience a plus. Maintains current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with an excellent driving record. Possesses CDL HAZMAT Endorsement. May be obtained post employment during probationary period. Demonstrates the ability to read a map. Demonstrates general computer skills and knowledge of intranet. Maintains a current Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC) issued by a doctor approved by Stericycle. Must work safely and carefully to prevent injury to self and others while driving, loading, and unloading vehicle.
