We are currently seeking an Environmental Technician to be responsible for identification, removal, packaging, transportation, and disposing of various hazardous materials in compliance with proper procedures for hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling and management. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Pick up and transport waste safely according to all federal, state, and local rules and regulations. Labeling of containers, and completion of pre-printed manifests and workorders. Performs warehouse work related to receipt, shipment, storage, distribution, or delivery of waste materials. Loads, unloads, moves, or stores items according to delivery or routing documents, or supervisor instructions and performing general housekeeping duties. Operates a hand truck, forklift, or other heavy equipment. Conducts lab pack operations. Packs small laboratory containers of chemical waste into larger containers for shipment. Performs various regulatory compliance and safety tasks. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education and Requirements: Education equivalent to Associate's Degree in science or related field, demonstrating knowledge of Environmental and Regulatory rules and requirements. Maintain high-end relationships with client(s) with positive, professional leadership skills a must. Demonstrates the ability to manage accounts on a daily basis. Completion of an accredited driving school, or previous Commercial Driving experience required. Previous route management experience a plus. INDIAN RIVER LAGOON (IRL) / COASTAL BASINS PROGRAM SCIENTIFIC/TECHNICAL SUPPORT Introduction: This is a contract position with PBS;J to provide on-site staff augmentation services to the St. Johns River Water Management District (quot;the Districtquot;), Palm Bay office. The District requires the assistance of staff to provide scientific and technical support in fulfillment of its restoration and management responsibilities in the Coastal Basins / Indian River Lagoon. Scientific/Technical support includes such tasks as regular and routine collection of water quality and biological, particularly seagrass, samples in the field, handling and processing of samples, data entry, basic data analysis, and other similar tasks. It is expected that this person will work closely with District staff in a seamless fashion. Therefore it may, at times, be necessary for this person to utilize District equipment and drive District vehicles and boats. It is a requirement for this position to work at the District Palm Bay Field office to ensure the closest possible cooperation and communication between District and PBS;J. Specific Tasks: Field tasks primarily involve collection and compilation of environmental field data. Specifically, the tasks include: Water quality sampling field work. Must have ability to perform physical tasks involving some lifting. Must be able to tolerate environmentally stressful conditions such as extreme heat, humidity, rain, and cold. Must be able to operate multiparameter meters and take accurate and legible field notes. Seagrass monitoring include seagrass transects and groundtruthing of existing vegetation from aerial photographs. Must know how to operate GPS unit. Must be able to snorkle and to tolerate environmentally stressful conditions such as extreme heat, humidity, rain, and cold, both in and out of the water. Maintenance duties on equipment including calibration of light and water quality measuring devices. Also performs maintenance of sampling sites, and field sampling equipment. Updates and maintains data files on water quality and seagrass and prepare data tables, graphs and figures. Assists in other field duties as assigned. During times when field work is not required, office tasks may be assigned and include: Data entry, processing, and analysis. Development of data tables, graphs, graphics, and reports Development and delivery of presentations based on project work and findings. Attendance at professional symposia and participation in training to develop and/or improve professional/technical skills Assist with contract management including development of scopes of work, experimental design, review and processing of progress reports and invoices, development of memoranda and correspondence.
