These offices are responsible for administering the agency's compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and related Federal laws during it's execution of the Federal transit program.  Provisions of the following NEPA-related laws or their implementing regulations pertain to the FTA program; the Clean Air Act, the National Historic Preservation Act, the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act , the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act, 49 U.S.C. Section 303 (protection of public lands), 49 U.S.C. Sections 5303-5305 (metropolitan and state-wide transportation planning), 49 U.S.C. Section 5324(b) (economic, social, and environmental interests), and other Federal environmental laws.You will use your educational background and extensive experience in environmental planning, transportation planning, urban planning, architecture, environmental law, or the physical or environmental sciences, to assist in: (1) guiding the environmental assessment of specific transit projects proposed by the FTA financial assistance such as the construction of transit bus facilities by a county or the construction of a new transit rail system by a regional transit authority; (2) developing and implementing agency-wide policies and procedures related to the assessment and mitigation of the environmental or community impacts of transportation improvements; and (3) assisting with other duties of the office related to it's environmental activities, such as developing and managing environmental research projects, developing planning courses and website material, responding to correspondence dealing with environmental issues, and budget development for the environmental office. Job Title: 20 Forest Conservation Workers Company: RENEWABLE RESOURCES Location: Athens, GA Description: Renewable Resources is looking for 20 Forest Conservation Workers with some knowledge of chainsaws and or brush cutters to cut cull trees and apply herbicides to some stumps of felled material. In addition to cutting and stump spraying personnel will perform other related task as needed, including piling of cut brush, spraying small foliage with herbicides and watching fire-lines. Persons MUST be able to identify Oaks, Dogwoods, and Pines from other species automatically. More advance knowledge of plants and native grasses is a plus. Persons MUST be aerobically fit and able to complete a Backpack Pack test of hiking 2 miles with a 25 pound back in less than 30 minutes without the risk of injury to one' self. Due to the risk of Forest Fires, smoking is not allowed on the job sites. Employees will be working on a team. Job Description: cut and fell all designated cull hardwoods, and understory brush as instructed. Some areas will have planted pines that are being released from competing hardwoods, other areas consist of mature forest cover and have an understory of trees to cut. Some sites will require the use of herbicides to treat the stumps. Persons need to be able to read and understand product labels for herbicides and be capable of passing the state Pesticide Applicators Test to apply pesticides. Primary Jobsites are in Greene, Putnam, Jasper, Upson and Jones Counties in the state of GA. Travel and stay over night may be required unless you have reliable transportation and are willing to commute. You have the option of using company transportation and housing, if you elect to do so a fee of $85.00 per week will be charged. ($30 for transportation and $55 for housing).
