Are you ready to Fast Forward To Your Growth? Our Health and Life Sciences Division is currently seeking an Environmental Field Technician to join the National Children's Study team. This position is located in St. Louis, MO. The National Children's Study (NCS) will examine the effects of environmental influences on the health and development of 100,000 children across the United States, following them from before birth until age 21. The Study will recruit and enroll pregnant women and women of childbearing age who may soon become pregnant. Participation in the Study is voluntary. The goal of the Study is to improve the health and well-being of our Nation's children. Battelle is establishing a Satellite Office in St. Louis City for the SLU-WU-SIU-Battelle St. Louis City Vanguard Pilot Center. The Environmental Field Technician will be responsible for conducting computer assisted in-person interviews and collecting environmental samples (e.g., dust, soil, water, air) from homes and other community locations. Initial processing of environmental samples will be required. May also be required to collect biological samples. Training for all study protocols and procedures will be provided, but these individuals must have prior experience in the collection of environmental samples. The successful candidate is recognized as outstanding in conducting standardized public health research data collection, and exhibit dedication and a strong commitment to following standardized protocols and detailed instructions regarding the collection, processing, and storage of biospecimens and environmental samples. The Environmental Field Technician will work with other team members to coordinate the day-to-day in-person data collection activities within St. Louis City for the NCS St. Louis City Vanguard Pilot Center. These positions will operate out of our St. Louis City Office. Responsibilities include: scheduling appointments; conducting home visits; collecting environmental samples in homes and other locations; conducting computer-assisted personal interviews with study participants; following study protocols; performing receipt and delivery of study supplies and materials; handling participant incentives; reporting to the Data Collection Managers; and performing other assigned tasks. This position requires attendance and passing of paid training and subsequent certification in order to conduct assigned NCS data collection activities. Qualifications for this position include familiarity and experience with research design, data collection and computerized systems, and experience with processing environmental samples. THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION: - BS or a BA in environmental science, industrial hygiene, public health, chemistry, biological science, or other related majors; - At least 1 year experience in collecting environmental samples; - Experience with LIMS or electronic tracking data bases; - Ability to understand and obtain certification in required NCS operating procedures and training; - A valid driver's license and reliable transportation; THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION: - At least 2 years experience in public health research including collecting environmental samples (e.g., air, water, dust, soil) in a variety of settings including private homes; - Experience in the collection of various biospecimens (e.g., blood, urine, vaginal swabs, hair, nails, saliva); - MPH, MS, or other masters degree in environmental science, industrial hygiene, public health, chemistry, biological science, or other related majors; - Demonstrated social and personal skills; - Bilingual (English/Spanish, English/Bosnian, or English/Vietnamese) skills a plus; - Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; and - Comprehensive computer skills (e.g., proficiency with Microsoft Office suite).
