The incumbent of this position provides technician support either alone or as a crew member to cruise, sample, select, and mark timber for harvest according to established management policies and marking guidelines.   Assists in pre-marking and post-marking surveys of harvest areas to determine proper tree spacing and compliance with harvest requirements and objectives.   The technician is required to collect field data used to determine quality, quantity, and volumes of timber to be harvested and present data to the crew leader or supervisor in the established format.       Works independently or as a member of a crew in performing regeneration surveys and survival checks to determine regeneration success and seedling mortality   Conducts surveys to locate Southern Pine Beetle infestation sites.   May   serve as a member of a crew engaged in wildland fire suppression or prescribed burning.   Operates emergency wildland firefighting vehicles.   The technician works as a crew member engaged in all phases of forest management including but not limited to timber marking, prescribed burning, timber stand improvement, reforestation, and construction and maintenance of forest access roads.
