Environmental Technician / Equipment Operator
General Job Description
The primary duties a Construction Technician / Equipment Operator is expected to perform include:
? Perform operations, maintenance, and construction of landfill gas (LFG) and leachate collection systems,
? Perform system operations and maintenance activities in a safe and proper manner and to ensure or restore proper operation and compliance,
? Work with and around heavy construction equipment and excavations on landfills (be an experienced, safe, and efficient operator of heavy construction equipment ? Specifically excavators, track hoes, back hoes, and other excavation equipment),
? Assist the efforts of the Project, Regional, and General Managers,
? Be responsible for company issued or rented equipment,
? Work on mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems,
? Understand environmental and health & safety regulations and perform work in a compliant manner with the regulations for all field work,
? Assist project managers with the procurement of materials, equipment, and supplies for projects,
? Perform landfill gas, surface water, leachate, soil, and air sampling,
? Perform maintenance on system components to ensure or restore proper operation and compliance,
? Environmental data collection and interpretation,
? Perform general office assistance and complete project related paperwork,
Required Abilities / Aptitudes
General Abilities:
? Respond to LFG system call-out devices 24-hours per day, 7 days per week. We guarantee our clients a response to system failure within a 12-hour (or sooner in some cases) time period,
? Travel for extended periods, if necessary. It is anticipated that a Construction Supervisor / Construction Manager will travel 30 to 95 percent of the time; however, this estimate may change based on client and project needs,
? Walk long distances, up and down steeply sloped landfills and outdoor terrain,
? Work in extreme (hot and cold) weather conditions safely,
? Lift a minimum of 50 pounds on a non-consistent basis,
? Pass a company paid, baseline health physical and drug screening, if required,
? Complete the HAZWOPER, 40-hour, environmental health and safety class, and annual 8-hour refresher classes,
? Provide an aggressive and pro-active approach to client needs,
? Ability to obtain, and keep in good standing, a valid drivers license,
? Must be available to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays, if necessary,
? Must present a professional, well groomed appearance (no facial hair, proper hair length, proper, professional, and adequate clothing, etc.) at all times,
? Must be able to communicate with clients and peers using professional diction, and
? Must adhere to the policies and protocols presented in the Employee Handbook.
Technical Aptitude:
? A Construction Technician / Equipment Operator must possess a minimum of a High School Diploma and 3+ years of directly related experience, or an A.S. or B.S. Degree in an engineering, construction technology, or science based program and 1 years of directly related experience.
? The Construction Technician / Equipment Operator should have a good working knowledge and the ability to operate heavy construction equipment (specifically excavators, track hoes, back hoes, and other excavation equipment, dozers, rock trucks, etc), survey equipment, compacting and materials handling equipment, and general construction tools and equipment,
? Have a working knowledge of grade / survey equipment, construction / heavy equipment operation, construction drawings, and other typical construction equipment and technologies,
? Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and system failures,
? Must fully understand and be able to apply applicable environmental regulation and regulatory requirements to customer projects,
? Must be familiar with or able to become familiar with general landfill gas and leachate collection system operation and construction techniques and components,
? Must be familiar with or able to become familiar with applicable environmental and health & safety regulations and regulatory requirements,
? Must be proficient or capable of becoming proficient with HDPE pipe fusion techniques,
? Must be proficient in the use of the PC, specifically with the Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, and Outlook),
? Be able to create professional business documents (letters, reports, memoranda, etc.) with little to no oversight or editing.
? Preferably possess the ability to use professional business documents (timesheets, dailies, expense reports, emails, etc.)
