This position requires a flexible schedule, travel (~25%), a valid driver's license, and a reliable, insured vehicle. OSHA HAZWOPER certification is a plus, but not a requirement. Job Title: Supervisory Forestry Technician (tech) Helitack Manager

Description:
This position is a manager of an Exclusive Use and/or Call-When-Needed (CWN) helicopters and is a specialist in helicopter operations. This position manages permanent and temporary helibase, provides contract administration for and plans and directs helicopter operation in support of fire suppression and fire management projects, emergency incidents and resource management projects. The primary line of work of this position is aviation and fire management. Plans, coordinates and directs helicopter support to execute a wide variety of park-wide and interagency area-wide management projects requiring multi-functional participation to complete. Responsible for Aviation Program Management duties for the Utah Parks Group. Is fully qualified and approved as a Contracting Officers Representative (COR) and is designated as a project inspector for the helicopter service contract assigned to the base. Ensures compliance with helicopter safety and applicable policies and procedures. Develops the current and out-year planning of the helitack budget which includes supplies, equipment, training and personnel necessary for a safe and efficient helicopter operation. Performs as a helicopter specialist providing technical expertise for helicopter projects (e.g., aerial ignition, administrative projects, search and rescue, etc.). During initial attack, ongoing fires, other natural disasters, search and rescue and other emergencies, serves in the capacity of helicopter manager, crew boss, helibase manager or other positions as needed or assigned based on current qualifications. Ensures readiness of helicopter, crew members, vehicles and assigned equipment on a daily bases during the contract period based on fire danger indices, weather forecasts, on-going activity, and input from park and interagency fire management personnel. Exercises the full range of supervisory duties for a workforce that ranges from a minimum of 6 to a maximum of 12 and includes one or more assistants. May be certified to function as a shorthaul/heli-rappel check spotter, spotter, for cargo let down operations. During the period when the contract helicopter is no longer on contract at base, incumbent serves as fire duty officer and supervises other personnel. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed at remote locations, airstrips, helibases, unimproved helispots, and park or forest environments of extreme high and low temperatures, steep terrain, and uneven work surfaces. Due to the mission requirements of low-level flight in mountainous terrain, firefighting, and incident support, the position is subject to substantial hazards on a regular and a recurring basis. The work involves exposure to potentially dangerous situations caused by uncontrolled fires, numerous aircraft being flown in close proximity, and mountain terrain. Errors could be catastrophic and result in serious injury or death. Other hazards include hazardous material handling, exposure to carbon monoxide, dust, smoke, debris, and noise, and use of mechanical or motorized equipment. AREA INFORMATION: The duty station is in Cedar City which is off I-15 in southern Utah, about 63 miles north of Zion National Park Headquarters. A full range of amenities is available in Cedar City, including medical services, hospital, schools, churches, department stores and recreational opportunities. Southern Utah State University is located in Cedar City.

Alton Coal Development, LLC has an opening for an Environmental Specialist to implement and monitor the environmental compliance program for the Coal Hollow surface coal mine, located in southern Utah. RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and maintain a comprehensive environmental compliance program that ensures full compliance with all permit and regulatory requirements; Remain current on all federal, state, and local environmental regulatory requirements; Perform environmental sampling as needed; Coordinate with mine personnel to develop and implement best management practices that ensure all mine activities are conducted in a manner which sufficiently protects environmental resources; Liaison with the appropriate agencies regarding current regulatory matters and future mine development; Provide required reporting to agencies in a timely and accurate manner; Oversee mine reclamation and habitat improvement projects. QUALIFICATIONS: B. S. in Environmental Science, Biology, Hydrology or similar field; Minimum 5 years related experience; Working knowledge of environmental regulations as they apply to a mining environment (preferably a coal regulatory program); Strong computer skills (MS Office, GIS/CAD, etc..). This position will be based at Alton Coal Development's main office in Cedar City, Utah. Many opportunities exist for outdoor activities including camping, fishing and hunting.
