Essential Job Duties: The successful candidate will be a contributing member of the multi-disciplinary Hugoton Reservoir Management Team (RMT). This individual will work with the RMT to develop and implement a portfolio of exploration and development drill projects in Oxy's southwest Kansas and Oklahoma Panhandle acreage. Job duties include integrating geophysical, geological, engineering, and operational data to generate exploration and development drilling opportunities. The successful candidate will also perform evaluation of secondary recovery targets and identify workover opportunities. Specific skills required include regional and field scale mapping and correlation, use of petrophysical analysis to determine porosity and water saturation, technical geologic risk assessment, and knowledge of clastic and carbonate depositional systems. The successful candidate will propose, justify, and champion projects through the approval and implementation process. As such, superior organization and verbal / written communication skills are essential. Position Duties: Responsible for establishing, managing, and prioritizing project activities associated with underground geology and underground hydrology.
This includes regular updates of the geological model and the creation of grade control models for the resource updates; along with the collection of hydrological data and implementation of the dewatering system in line with short, mid, and long term mine planning activities.
Undertake various projects to provide a better understanding of the ore body geology. Communicate findings with all stakeholders.
Provide a strong contribution to the site safety culture and programs, encouraging and ensuring others do the same.
Geology
Contribute to geological logging of diamond core, RC and sludge hole chips to a consistent and high standard.
Contribute to the data validation process
Contribute to UG Geological face mapping and wall mapping
Establish geological data collation and interpretation process
Monitor geology exposed in pits and underground excavations and relate these to drilling information.
Merge Geological data from the UG, Open pit and Exploration; interpret and create the Geological model
Undertake geology/grade control modeling in liaison with the Resource Geologist for the mineral resource updates.
Assist with resource modeling and ounce conversion strategy as required.
Hydrology
Work with short term and long term planning on infrastructure design and bore installation
Ensure all hydrological data is collected, monitored and analyzed.
Coordinate closely with exploration and UG Geology to utilize planned holes for hydrology data collection
Oversee drilling contractors and provide well design and installation direction.
Oversee aquifer testing; underground shut-in tests and well-field performance evaluation.
Assist with/update the Hydrological model as required.
Reporting and communication of Hydrological activities as required.
Metallurgy
Planning and implementing metallurgical test work for characterization in line with definition drilling activities.
Other:
Contribute to QAQC protocol and conduct projects as required.
Contribute to mine reconciliation and conduct dilution/recovery estimation projects as required.
Contribute to budgeting activities as required.
Train other staff and monitor their performance.
Complete other duties as required by the UG Chief Geologist.
Requirements:
BS in Geology, or Geological Engineering or related required.
7-10 years of progressive experience with emphasis in underground gold mining preferred.
Four (4) years production experience preferred
Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Experience in core logging, geological mapping, data validation, geological interpretation and modeling required.
Strong technical background using mining software required.
Experience in Vulcan & acquire preferred.
Experience in hydrology - mine dewatering activities preferred.
Strong safety and leadership skills required.
