The Position
Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The Environmental Protection Administration is seeking to fill an Environmental Scientist 3 located in Reno. This position supports and is within the Hydrology branch within the Bureau of Mining Regulation and Reclamation, Regulation and Closure Program. The Hydrology Branch is responsible for performing administrative and technical reviews of Site Characterization Reports and Predictive Modeling Results for Designated Mining Facilities. The incumbent determines validity of the submitted and approved studies, predictive models, statutory and regulatory program requirements. The Hydrology Branch also assists the Reclamation Branch with the review and approval of long term management and closure strategies and assesses the necessity of additional financial assurances.
