Plan, coordinate and supervise subsurface explorations and laboratory investigations performed by private consultants for capital improvement projects; supervise engineering technical support personnel. Interpret and evaluate results of field explorations, laboratory tests and geotechnical reports. Prepare geological reports relating to the design and construction of capital improvements. Prepare plans, designs and specifications for retaining walls. Consult with engineering personnel on geologic aspects of engineering plans; assure that plans and specifications meet appropriate standards. Monitor and inspect geotechnical aspects of capital improvement projects under construction; work with construction management personnel to solve any problems arising during project completion. Assist in preparing short- and long-range capital improvement plans. Represent the City in meetings dealing with geological concerns. Conduct special geological investigations as required.
