Employees being promoted to a higher classified position receive the minimum for the position or a pay rate adjustment of 8% whichever is greater.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position will support the hydrogeology programs at the New Mexico Bureau of Geology in their mission to understand groundwater changes and trends across the state of NM. In particular, this position will coordinate the maintenance and growth of a dedicated statewide groundwater monitoring network and analyze groundwater data to build interpretations and trend summaries. The suitable applicant will be able to work in the field to measure groundwater levels using a variety of techniques, researching and reviewing well logs and other data to determine aquifer characteristics, as well as outreach to the general public to increase participation in monitoring groundwater. Collaboration on other hydrogeology projects in NM is also expected, as needed. Experience with drilling wells is desired. This position is partially supported by soft money contracts and may be contingent on continued contract awards.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Coordination: Work with project team for data collection and field schedule.

Research: Using existing data to evaluate trends and data gaps, well record research, report writing and support on other hydrogeologic projects as needed.

Outreach and public engagement: Support including developing and delivering presentations or reports/flyers/posters and attending events to build participation in network

Field work to collect water level data, well information, and public engagement.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Earth Science. Basic computing and data entry skills (MS office, ArcPro/GIS). Comfort speaking to both scientific and non-scientific public on a daily basis. Geologic and hydrologic interpretations of groundwater information (groundwater levels / hydrographs and well logs). Ability to work well with others as part of a team and manage team.
