This recruitment is for one permanent, full-time, Environmental Engineer 2 for Northwest Region Capital Programs located in Burlington, WA. This position will work Monday- Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm. This work is typically 85% office and 15% traveling/visiting the work sites. Must be willing to travel as needed to accomplish assignments. Field work may include rough terrain and enclosed spaces.

In this role, you will provide environmental engineering services to the Agency under the general guidance/direction of registered Professional Engineers (PE). This position requires the ability to work cooperatively in a multi-disciplined team environment, provide independent, professional recommendations concerning all aspects of engineering design, permitting, and construction.

This position requires the ability to exercise sound professional judgment in making decisions concerning all facets of engineering design, permitting, and construction observation.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • As a design environmental engineer working in a close team environment, this position is responsible for the preparation of engineering reports/studies, contract drawings, technical specifications, and contract cost estimates for a wide variety of capital development projects, including:
    • Design of buildings, retaining walls, and miscellaneous other park structures.
    • Analysis/design of surface water drainage and treatment features in accordance with various county and state level storm water regulations and design manuals; and
    • Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of watersheds and sizing of drainage features; and
    • Analysis and design of small and large on-site sewage systems; sewer systems and pumping stations; potable water systems, wells, treatment facilities, and reservoirs; and
    • Design of roadways, parking lots, and trails.
  • Act as Field Engineer/Project Manager performing construction site inspections, making recommendations and/or design field engineered revisions as required, negotiating change orders, preparing contract payments, preparing contract closeout documentation, and handling first level contract disputes and claims.
  • Conduct field investigations as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree with a major study in one of the following engineering fields: sanitary, civil, geotechnical, water resource, environmental, or a closely related field.
  • Two (2) years of civil/environmental engineering experience.
  • Valid unrestricted (except for corrective lenses) driver's license.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • An Engineer-In-Training Certificate.
  • Skilled using computer programs such as AutoCAD/ Civil 3D, Excel, and engineering software.
  • Experience using scientific calculator, copiers/plotters, survey instruments including total station, level, etc.
  • Ability to operate vehicles such as a van, a truck and sport utility vehicles, etc.
