Natural Resources Scientist

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Natural Resources Scientist to support environmental reviews, permitting processes, and project coordination for utility and infrastructure projects. In this role, you will collaborate with our natural resources team to prepare technical documentation, interpret ecological and cultural data, and ensure regulatory compliance. You will also contribute to internal planning discussions and help shape permitting strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct environmental reviews and manage permitting processes for utility-related projects.
  • Draft, compile, and review technical documents and reports to support permit applications.
  • Analyze and apply ecological data, cultural resource information, construction methodologies, and compliance strategies.
  • Ensure permit applications include thorough, project-specific analyses to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in internal meetings to discuss project timelines, progress, and permitting strategies for restoration and mitigation efforts.
  • Prepare and submit reports as needed or requested by leadership or regulatory bodies.
  • Interpret and apply permitting requirements under NEPA, HNI, CWA, and other relevant regulations.
  • Keep project leadership informed of key developments, issues, and milestones.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in environmental science, ecology, biology, natural resources, or a related field.
  • 15 years of experience in plant, soil, and wetland identification and characterization.
  • 15 years of fieldwork experience, including wildlife and habitat assessments for threatened and endangered species.
  • Strong interest in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, conservation, and environmental stewardship.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and resourcefulness.
  • Team-oriented with a flexible and collaborative approach.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with GIS and GPS technologies is preferred.
  • Valid drivers license and a clean driving record.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $38.46/hr.
