We seek an Environmental, Health, and Safety Supervisor at our Chaska, MN production facility. This role will report to the VP, Engineering and Maintenance and will be an integral part of the operations team responsible for driving a culture of safety
throughout the organization and implementing health & safety-focused initiatives to effectively identify and mitigate risks. This role contributes to the success of our customers by ensuring safe, efficient, and environmentally sound work areas, which allows high-quality products to be produced in the space. This role provides strategic direction and oversight to all environmental, health, and safety initiatives for the Chaska and Eden Prairie locations.
Job Responsibilities and Duties: The Environmental Health and Safety Supervisor will be successful by
fulfilling the following job responsibilities, duties, and core competencies.
- Compliance, auditing, and training:
- Ensure the company complies with all the federal and state OSHA regulations
- Prepare and submit reports for all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs as required by Federal, State, and Local agencies
- Serve as a point of contact for inspections by regulatory agencies, minimize deficiencies, and ensure proper corrective actions are implemented.
- Maintain all EHS training documentation as required by the company and federal/state standards.
- Train individuals who handle waste on the proper handling, labeling, and storing of waste.
- Annually host Hazardous Materials & Waste Management and Compliance training for those needing to ship waste.
- Practice environmentally cautious handling, transportation, and storage of chemicals, and be a go-to resource for those with questions regarding environmental safety at the Chaska site.
- Work with distributors, contractors, and consultants to improve Apex's environmental impact overall.
- Implementing new health and safety protocols and measures to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Reporting to management, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.
- Preparing and submitting health and safety compliance documents to the relevant organizations.
- Keeping abreast of the latest EHS trends, policies, regulations, and best practices.
- Conduct safety training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention.
- Ensure training requirements are planned, communicated, and completed
- May conduct EHS inspections and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals, company standards, and procedures.
- Handle all chemical and component waste for the Chaska site
- Practice safe working techniques and safe handling of chemicals.
- Maintain and update as needed SOPs for handling waste
- Ensure inspections by regulatory agencies are coordinated and deficiencies are minimized and corrected.
- Maintain all logs and documentation associated with waste to be completed accurately, including hazardous BOL records.
- Assisted with maintaining site preparedness and emergency plans and procedures.
- Itemize, label, sort, and track waste to comply with all waste recycling and shipping requirements and laws.
- Incident Management and Prevention
- Work with department supervisors and leads to facilitate investigations of injuries, illnesses, and pain complaints.
- Investigate accidents and incidents as to the cause and the actions to be taken to prevent reoccurrence.
- Assist in re-integrating injured employees with restricted work duties into the work environment under the guidance of HR and the Worker's Comp Administrator.
- Develop and assist in implementing job rotations to eliminate/reduce ergonomic stressors.
- Assess and identify ergonomic hazards within the workplace and during the facility's operation.
- Analyze injury/illness statistics to establish a baseline of work-related incidents and trends.
- EHS program management:
- Develop, implement, and direct a comprehensive health and safety program for the Company in partnership with US Compliance.
- Develop, implement, and direct a comprehensive environmental program for the Company in partnership with US Compliance.
- Develop, implement, and monitor EHS action plans and programs to ensure a high level of safety awareness within the facility.
- Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
- Practice safe working techniques and reinforce the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures as set out by the organization
- Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
- Maintain and update as needed SOPs for all safe work practices and equipment
- Lead the Emergency Response Team
- Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics
- Ownership and management of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Programs
- Partner with Human Resources regarding Workers' Compensation, including but not limited to: claims filing, claims management, post-accident testing, reviewing reports of workability and assessing return to work plans
- Championing safety culture:
- Meeting with the management team to define EHS goals and objectives.
- Implement and maintain safety standards and processes that drive a culture of safety throughout the organization.
- Drive ownership of safety by department heads for their respective departments.
- Build engagement in the safety culture through the implementation of training and support for the safety committees.
- Provide training and coaching to cross-functional groups on how to inspect equipment and machinery and to observe possible unsafe conditions.
- Build a culture of "lean action" within the plant so that we live lean better than any organization
- Maintains and updates EHS information (charts and graphs) and communicates safety metrics.
- Standardize disciplined Root Cause Analysis and follow-up on all near misses, first aids and recordable(s).
- Implement and maintain standards and processes that eliminate waste throughout the department.
- Apply and utilize "lean tools" to permanently implement improvements.
- Support 5S implementation throughout the plant. (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, and
Sustain).
- Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes.
- Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities, or new prevention measures.
- Sustain and identify improvements for the near-miss 5S programs.
- Perform other work as assigned.
Qualification and Skill Requirements:
Prior Experience:
- Environmental Health & Safety program management experience in a manufacturing environment
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience
- Manufacturing industry experience required
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across different levels and functions
- Ability to lead and influence across various levels of the organization
- Ability to build relationships effectively with all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated ability to build trust and confidence with stakeholders and influence change
