POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position will support multi-year State of Montana, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers environmental projects primarily in Montana and the mountain west U.S. Projects involve investigation and remediation of contaminated mining sites.

The person hired for this position will work a hybrid in-office schedule in our Billings, MT office, working at least three days per week in-office. Potentially after a minimum of three months, the role may be eligible for a more long-term remote work arrangement within the state of Montana, but would still require working within the Billings office a minimum of one week per month.

Responsibilities/Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Ensuring field operations are conducted in a safe manner in accordance with project specific Site Safety and Health Plans / Health and Safety Plans.
  • Providing remedial system operations and maintenance services.
  • Performing / conducting field subcontractor oversight inclusive of drilling, waste transportation and disposal, and heavy equipment operation.
  • Preparation of work plans and project deliverables (e.g., UFP-QAPPs, FSPs, RI/FS Reports, SSHP/HASPs, RI/FS/RD. technical memoranda).
  • Potential 25-50% travel within the U.S. (predominantly in western U.S.) as needed to support projects.
  • Preparation of work plans, project deliverables, and cost estimates.
  • Preparing engineering calculations, maps, and drawings.
  • Design, manage, and conduct mine reclamation and environmental field investigations at active mines, abandoned mine sites and hazardous waste sites.
  • General tasks may include preparation of proposals and cost estimates, management of projects including schedule and budget, client interaction, supervising field crews, data analyses and interpretation of field and analytical data, data quality control, and technical report preparation and review.
  • Construction oversight may include onsite quality management of civil, mining, and environmental aspects related to site reclamation, mine shaft and adit closure, coal fire management, and the construction of mine influenced water treatment systems.

Required Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field related to Environmental Studies such as: Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience, or equally relevant advanced educational experience.
  • Prior experience contributing to the preparation of technical reports, memoranda, and work plans.
  • Coordination of field subcontractors for environmental investigation and/or remediation activities.
  • Must possess excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Must possess strong analytical and quantitative skills and a high attention to detail.
  • Possess or obtain OSHA HAZWOPER certification upon employment and be able to work in various levels of PPE including a respirator, if required.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Preferred Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT – Preferred, not required

  • Experience with following software: Carlson, ArcGIS, Civil 3D.
  • Experience working on U.S. federal contracts.
  • Experience with remedial system design.
  • Preparation of engineering technical specifications.
  • Experience with abandoned mine lands cleanup.
  • M.S. degree in engineering field related to Environmental Studies or related field.
  • EIT Certification (or capability to test and pass FE exam within one year) or MT Registered PE (or capability to obtain registration within one year), depending on experience.

The salary range for this position ranges from $63,600 - $95,400. This position's final salary can be impacted by various factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills.
