The hired individual will utilize Gas chromatography/Mass spectrometry (GC/MS) to "fingerprint" spilled petroleum products in the environment and match them to their potential sources. Duties include sample preparation, sample analysis, data review and analysis, report writing and review, and organization and ordering of laboratory supplies. The incumbent will also perform total petroleum hydrocarbon analysis using GC/MS and GC/FID. The individual may also contribute to the development and application of two-dimensional gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (GCxGC-FID) for quantitative analysis of renewable fuels.

Working ConditionsOSPR is a 24-hour oil and pollution spill response organization. The incumbent in this position can be required to participate in prevention and response training, drills and incidents throughout California, and to be available to deploy/travel with short notice for extended periods of time (up to 7 days).
