GHD is seeking a intermediate Engineer/Geologist/Scientist to work with our Contaminated Assessment Remediation (CAR) group as a CAR professional based out of our Topeka office.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

Research, design, plan, and perform engineering duties in the prevention, control, and remediation of environmental hazards using various engineering disciplines. Work may include waste treatment, site remediation, or pollution control technology.

Responsibilities

Engineering Solutions Design: Contribute to the design of engineering solutions; design the feasibility testing approach and supervise its implementation to support the development and validation of engineering solutions.

Health, Safety, and Environment: Follow the organization's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well-being of self and others in the workplace. Identify patterns of risky behavior within the team and take appropriate action to resolve them, escalating serious issues as appropriate.

Waste Management: Lead waste projects or supervise area of the organization, ensuring adherence to regulations and effective reduction, segregation, and disposal of waste.

Technical Troubleshooting: Support technical troubleshooting efforts, aiding in the quick and accurate identification, analysis, and resolution of technical issues with equipment and experiments.

Technical Developments Recommendation: Research and suggest technical developments to improve the quality of the website/portal/software and supporting infrastructure to better meet users needs.

Engineering Drawings: Create engineering drawings to support the communication, evaluation, and implementation of engineering solutions.

Data Collection and Analysis: Collate and analyze data using preset tools, methods, and formats. Involves working independently.

Project Management: Work within an established project management plan to achieve specific goals.

Testing: Use product specifications to design test procedures and standards.

Research: Carry out a range of research activities either to support others or to fulfill the requirements of the role.

Personal Capability Building: Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.

Client & Customer Management (External): Help senior colleagues manage client and customer relationships by using relevant sales or client systems.

Be available for occasional after hours response to environmental emergencies to perform field tasks.

Professional Designation/License (Engineer, Geologist, etc) a plus

Experience preparing regulatory work plans and reports for investigation, remediation, and closure.

Understanding of multimedia remedial technologies for addressing a variety of contaminants including VOCs, SVOCs, metals, and PFAS.

Working knowledge of the design and operation and maintenance of remediation systems.

Experience in coordinating and simultaneously managing multiple tasks while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail in a consulting environment.

Working knowledge of methods and procedures for site characterization, hydrogeologic analysis and remediation of contaminants in soil, soil vapor, indoor air and groundwater.

OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification

Education

Bachelor's or Masters degree in Applied Science (Engineering, Geology, or Science)

Experience

General Experience: Experienced practitioner able to work unsupervised (13 months to 3 years)

Managerial Experience: Basic experience of coordinating the work of others (4 to 6 months)
