Franklin International, a leading manufacturer of adhesives, coatings, and sealants is currently seeking an Environmental Specialist.

This position is responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation of programs and procedures relating to Environmental Compliance, including the planning and execution of tasks associated with those programs, to ensure full corporate compliance with Federal and State EPA regulations.

Fundamental Job Tasks:

Ensures safety of employees, customers, and the local community by interpreting environmental monitoring results and taking action where necessary. Leads management efforts in determining EPA compliance recommendations, assignments and requirements. Follows-up to ensure that progress is made on assignments. Makes sure monitoring equipment is functioning properly through visual inspection and calibration.

Maintains compliance with EPA and other regulatory agencies by implementing plans and policies and performing appropriate monitoring and record-keeping. Interprets rules and laws, including: EPA, NPDES. Completes federal, state, and local reports. Keeps accurate and detailed records of work undertaken. Completes EPA reports on a monthly, semi-annual, and annual basis. Checks previous calculations – electrical classification, pressure relief systems, ventilation systems, emissions, etc. Conducts sampling with equipment/methods which meet EPA criteria for accuracy. Reviews operations and processes to identify environmental-related issues and propose possible solutions.

Manages Franklin’s Industrial & Laboratory Waste Disposal (Non-Haz and Haz) and EPA Annual Hazardous Waste Report. Collects data and completes monthly water discharge reports. Coordinates semi-annual sewer discharge sampling with contracted lab service. Monitors UST System for Leak Detection requirements. Reviews waste profiles and determines waste handling and disposal methods. Schedules and manages waste shipments and disposal.

Facilitates wise decision-making by keeping appropriate parties informed. Provides regular progress updates to management. Writes a summary paper or helps debrief for certain events (e.g., chemical accident here or elsewhere). Able to take the lead in an emergency situation (e.g., leaks, spills) and be able to advise others as needed. Promotes awareness of environmental compliance issues by effectively communicating with employees and managers.

Observes all safety and environmental guidelines while handling products, raw materials and wastes.

Knowledge and Skills:

B.S. in an Environmental Science program and minimum of 3 years’ experience in EH&S field; Engineering (or other related technical field) accepted if 5+ years of applicable EHS experience included; or Applicable Military Experience/Training. Requires strong computer and database skills, presentation and public speaking skills, and thorough knowledge of Federal and state EPA regulations
