Position Summary Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Environmental Health & Safety Supervisor will be responsible for the promotion and maintenance of EHS programs at the Hughson Nut facilities. This position will provide effective feedback for corrective measures to isolate and prevent workplace injuries and actively promote employee health and safety development and awareness. They will conduct plant inspections to identify and correct unsafe working conditions in accordance with safety regulations. The ideal candidate will be able to analyze complex plans to identify any safety concern and inefficiencies. They will have effective skills with leading teams and training employees. They should be approachable and outgoing with an ability to communicate effectively. Position Responsibilities
  • Implement, develop and update safety policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with vision, values and objectives, in compliance with federal regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Provide effective team leadership and coaching in achieving world-class performance related to environmental, health, and safety.
  • Responsible for coordinating all interaction with plant resources in conjunction with current policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Understand Federal and State (Cal-OSHA) occupational safety and health regulations and monitor regulatory changes as they occur or are notified by SHS Manager.
  • Identify and analyze leading and lagging safety indicators, patterns and trends and works with respective functional areas to design, develop and drive action plans to ensure focus on top priorities and related performance.
  • Provide EHS consultation and information to support EHS efforts. Work cooperatively with all levels of management and staff on all safety related issues as they impact other company functions.
  • Lead development efforts of facility safety committees.
  • Conduct plant inspections to identify and correct unsafe conditions in accordance with OSHA regulations. Issue work orders and follow-up to correct conditions.
  • Oversee SHS investigations for accident, incident, near-miss or employee inquiries, suggestions, and complaints. Analyze accident reports to ensure rood cause(s) have been identified. Make recommendations and oversee corrective action implementation.
  • Support any requirements pertaining to Air Permits, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) and RCRA waste characterizing.
  • Support any requirements pertaining to Wastewater Discharge Permit and Solid Waste Disposal.
  • Lead projects for waste reduction and sustainability planning, including (but not limited to) energy reduction, recycling, zero landfill, etc.
  • Perform analysis such as Job Safety Analysis, Sound, Thermal, Ergonomic and Repetitive Motion to ensure proper documentation and workplace safety.
  • Inspect facilities to evaluate operational effectiveness and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Perform and lead monthly inspections of the facility, make recommendations on findings
  • Develop and present safety trainings, skill development, and tail-gate meetings in accordance with OSHA general industry, and Olam safety orders and programs.
  • Drives continuous improvement and closure to select health, safety, and industrial hygiene compliance gaps identified through corporate audits, internal audits, third party audits, and regulatory inspections.
  • Promotes safety and health awareness through internal company communications, newsletters, and specific training programs.
  • Participate in emergency response activities including the planning and demonstrations.
  • Manage Hazard Communication program oversight (Hazardous Chemical Programs, RMP, PSM, HAZCOM). Conduct inspections and follow-up in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.
  • Keep up to date on process changes and support any new required permit applications. Ensure applications are submitted as necessary.
  • Make recommendations on work safety standards and enforces procedures. Risk prevention areas includes hazardous materials exposure, accidents, fires, or other unsafe conditions. Meet compliance and reporting requirements of federal or state regulations.
  • Monitor lost-time injuries/illnesses and participate in management of Worker's Compensation Claims in conjunction with the HR dept.
  • Engage and develop team members in SHS programs and safety culture
  • Support Plant Maintenance and Engineering to implement engineering controls and minimize safety and occupational hazards.
  • Gather data, report, and provide results on environmental requirements, including, but not limited to inventories and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) sheets.
  • Supports Plant Maintenance and Engineering to implement engineering controls and minimize safety and occupational hazards.
  • Oversee the Workers Compensation and Employee Return to Work (RTW) Programs. Partner with HR to oversee RTW steps.
  • Monitor lost-time injuries/illnesses and participate in management of Worker's Compensation Claims in conjunction with the HR dept.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Position Requirements Bachelor's degree plus five (5) years of environmental, health, safety experience is required or state-issued equivalency certificate plus nine (9) years of environmental, health, safety experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Bilingual, English, and Spanish is preferred.
  • Skilled in developing clear written communications, procedures, and instructions.
  • Ability to respond to incidents in off hours.
  • Analyze, interpret, and present data to varying audiences.
  • Solid understanding of Cal OSHA and OSHA requirements.
  • Ability to Coach Culture Change teams/events.
  • Good organizational skills with an ability to effectively prioritize.
  • Ability to build effective relationships resulting in a safe workplace.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record; Required to obtain a California driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • In depth knowledge of Occupational Safety Health (OSH) guidelines and practices is required.
  • Experience in reporting and developing policies is required.
  • Leadership experience in organizational culture change is required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, SharePoint is required.
  • Applied knowledge and working understanding of OSHA, EPA, regulatory compliance, experience with inspections, incident investigations, remediation, process safety, contractor safety, EHS training, hazard reviews, and job EHS analysis is required.
  • Strong organizing, planning, analytical problem-solving and decision making are required.
The pay for this role in the state of California ranges from $71,000 to $119,000 and is based on the position responsibilities and geographic location. Actual pay within that range may be determined based on candidate experience, qualifications and/or other determining factors. Note: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
