Job Description and Duties
The Animal Health Branch (AHB) functions as California's organized, professional veterinary medical unit to protect public health, animal agriculture, and the economy from catastrophic animal diseases and other related health and agricultural problems. AHB addresses livestock diseases and issues that require statewide coordinated resources; implements programs that protect public health and animal agriculture; and ensures the availability, affordability, and wholesomeness of food.
The Animal Health Branch is advertising to fill a Environmental Scientist within the Tulare District Office.
Biosecurity Compliance Audit Program (BCAP)
Serve as a subject matter expert for the Biosecurity Compliance Audit Program (BCAP):
Assist industry and District staff with writing, reviewing and approving BCAP plans
Collaborate with District Staff, BCAP Senior Environmental Scientist and Avian program leads to develop industry appropriate biosecurity practices in compliance with the USDA BCAP and NPIP program requirements within the District.
Review and evaluate submitted biosecurity plans, practices, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and documentation as part of on-going BCAP audits within the District to ensure effective mitigation of on-farm risk.
Training and Outreach
Develop and review BCAP presentations, documents, outreach materials and written reports on relevant BCAP topics for CDFA field staff and poultry industry stakeholders.
Ensure all biosecurity templates, outreach and developed materials comply with relevant laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Facilitate and prepare training presentations for state regulatory staff within the District on current biosecurity standards and requirements.

Working Conditions
The duties of this position are performed indoors and outdoors, with outdoor fieldwork comprising > 50% of the duties. The incumbent may occasionally work under difficult conditions and be exposed to extremes in temperature, high levels of noise, heavy machinery, various odors, dust and mud, as well as hazardous driving conditions.
Travel (including nights, weekends, and holidays) for extended periods may be required for meetings and events as well as during an emergency response. Travel on short notice may be required upon activation for emergency response. During emergency response periods, duties may require working long shifts at hours other than the normal work hours.
The incumbent must follow CDFA, Division, and Branch employee health and safety policies.
Regular or recurring telework may occur as part of the incumbent's ongoing regular schedule in accordance with CDFAs Telework Policy. Any employee who is teleworking must adhere to all telework policies and procedures.
