Volt is immediately hiring a Staff Environmental Scientist in Greenville, SC.
As a Staff Environmental Scientist, you will:
Description
- The Staff Environment Scientist will perform environmental and siting studies, preparing permitting applications and analyzing environmental data for various types of projects, including high-voltage transmission line routing, power generation construction activities and water treatment facilities.
- Support Environmental Inspections / Compliance for facility-based construction projects and field-based construction projects.
- The construction projects are associated with Dominion Energy’s local natural gas distribution systems (e.g., replacement of existing lines/equipment, installation of new lines, equipment, etc.)
- Emergency spill response and associated regulatory notifications
- Remediation oversight and support;
- Field screening and analytical sampling;
- Regulatory reporting, including Tier II reporting, hazardous waste biennial reporting, EPA ID notifications.
- Environmental compliance auditing at operations centers (operational ECC) or construction projects (construction projects)
- Waste characterization including collecting samples, waste classification, signing hazardous waste manifests, coordination between operations and waste management team for disposal.
- Coordination of asbestos survey and sampling
- Environmental compliance task tracking using electronic databases.
- Root Cause Analysis for reportable environmental events
- Work with construction teams and Environmental Inspectors for project environmental compliance (Construction ECC)
- Knowledge of construction BMPs (construction ECC)
- Conduct field surveys, assessments and collect project-related data for analysis in environmental impact projects.
- Prepare environmental reports, environmental impact statements and transmission line routing studies.
- Collect GIS data for analysis, conversion, and migration.
- Compile GIS data for map production in accordance with standards and industry best practices.
- Perform environmental site investigations, support erosion control efforts and subsurface soil sampling.
- Conduct and file environmental compliance audits.
- Prepare a wide variety of permitting applications such as air, land use and cultural resources permitting.
- Lead site selection studies and preparation of related National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation.
- Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
- Research and prepare environmental assessments.
- Permitting analysis. Prepare proposals. Write technical reports.
- Progressive project responsibilities. Field work.
Requirements:
- State-specific stormwater management / erosion & sediment control certification.
- 5+ years of Environmental Construction Compliance / Environmental Inspection experience
- A successful candidate must have strong technical writing and data analysis skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, SharePoint), ability to work independently and in field environments, and experience with environmental permits and compliance plans.
- Bachelor Degree in Environmental Science or a related natural science degree from an accredited program and 4 years performing environmental and permitting studies, preparing permitting applications and analyzing environmental data for various environmental impact projects is required or Master Degree in Environmental Science or a related natural science degree from an accredited program and 3 years performing environmental and permitting studies, preparing permitting applications and analyzing environmental data for various environmental impact projects is required.
- Required Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to clearly communicate both verbal and written technical information.
- Demonstrated knowledge of environmental site assessment methods.
- Demonstrated knowledge of environmental compliance and compliance audits.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the environmental permitting process.
- Experience using GPS and working in the ArcGIS desktop environment.
- Must be proficient in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Valid driver's license
- Excellent communication skills
Role Details:
Full time , Contract Opportunity . (Onsite).
Duration: 12 Months Contract .
Location: Greenville, SC - (Onsite).
Pay Rate: $35/hr. to $40/hr.
