Freese and Nichols, Inc. (FNI) is looking for an Environmental Scientist to join our growing team in our Tulsa, Oklahoma office and support our Central Plains Division. You will work on a variety of interesting technical projects for clients throughout a number of industry sectors, including state and federal agencies, municipalities, and utility districts, to support engineering, infrastructure, and water resources projects. The role will involve environmental permitting, environmental site assessments, and other related services. The position involves periodic travel and fieldwork on a regular basis.

In this position, you may

  • Conduct, either independently or as part of a team, technical environmental studies and formulate results in a concise, well-written document. Proceed with analysis and report preparation with guidance and final review by the Senior Scientist.
  • Perform field work including Phase I environmental site assessments, installation and sampling of soil borings/monitoring wells, common soil, groundwater, and stormwater monitoring techniques, and development of stormwater plans.
  • Perform natural resources surveys such as wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species habitat assessments, and other types of surveys required for NEPA evaluations.
  • Supervise subcontractors in the performance of field work.
  • Analyze environmental data including use of statistics.
  • Interact with federal, state, and local government agencies
  • Coordinate with design engineers and stakeholder groups
Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in environmental science, geoscience, biology, ecology, or related field.
  • 1+ years' experience, including direct experience in the collection and analysis of data, application of standard techniques and procedures and report preparation for specific projects, with an environmental or natural resource department, agency, or consulting firm. (A master's degree can be used to substitute for experience.)
  • Proficiency with standard equipment used in collecting field data and mapping such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS).
  • Must be willing to travel, with overnight travel common. Travel may be required up to 50% of the time.
  • Periodic work in inclement weather is possible.
  • Works well in a team environment, is responsive, and has strong communication and technical writing skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. degree is preferred.
  • Professional certification in appropriate field is desirable.
