We are seeking energetic, passionate people who enjoy the outdoors and want to play a key role for the position of Naturalist within the Division of Natural Areas & Preserves, headquartered at ODNR Central Office in Franklin County. What you will do...
- Primary point person for planning, conducting & scheduling interpretive programs centered around the Scenic Rivers Stream Quality Monitoring (SQM) Program and Education Trailer at public/private sites for K-12 schools, community groups, and special events
- Develop interpretive informational materials including displays, videos, signage, fact sheets, handouts, & brochures regarding the Division's Scenic Rivers Program and SQM Program which are tied to State of Ohio K-12 education standards (focusing on fourth grade)
- Administers school field trip grant program including advertising grant, creating grant criteria and application forms, assisting teachers with applications, tracking applications, and compliance and expenditures
- Completes reporting as indicated in grant requirements for expenditure of funds, number of programs provided, grants awarded, and outreach participation for Division records as well as submission to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Operates, maintains, and maneuvers pickup truck pulling 20-foot box trailer containing interpretive displays to schools and other public events
- Starting hourly pay of $22.96/hr. with multiple pay increases over the duration of employment, with an end salary of $24.88/hr.
The Naturalist position is a limited term (temporary), unclassified, full-time position. This position is eligible for fulltime benefits, including medical. The duration of employment is a maximum of 24 months, pending grant funding, starting upon hire.
18 mos. trg. or 18 mos. exp. in preparing &/or presenting educational materials concerning wildlife & plants; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations; valid driver's license.
- Or completion of associate degree core coursework in natural sciences (e.g., biology, botany, zoology); valid driver's license.
- Or 12 mos. exp. as Naturalist Aide, 22540; valid driver's license.
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
