As a member of the Air Permitting team, you will support environmental programs aimed at ensuring compliance with air quality regulations and standards in the Americas while also enabling AWS's growth around the world.
As an Air Quality Engineer you will support air permitting and air quality compliance for new and existing AWS facilities within an assigned regional location (typically 1-4 data center sites). You will work under moderate guidance to manage compliance activities and program components through directed work projects. You will collaborate with stakeholders across AWS to support standards and mechanisms that incorporate air quality permitting into the process of planning, building, and operating data centers. You will assist with air quality engineering projects and provide compliance support for both design and operations teams under guidance from senior team members. The Air Quality Engineer will also work with internal and external partners that include government entities, AWS regional environmental engineers, consultants, design, construction, operations and other key stakeholders.
The successful candidate will have basic knowledge of air quality engineering solutions and air permitting in North America, the ability to complete well-defined tasks according to clear instructions, and demonstrate commitment to air quality compliance and sustainability.
Key job responsibilities

Support air permitting work in AMER by assisting with the preparation of air permit applications for new construction, modifications, amendments, and renewals under guidance
Assist in managing relationships with environmental consultants and testing firms to complete air permit applications and air dispersion modeling analyses
Support regulatory agency interactions for permit evaluation and processing under supervision
Complete assigned tasks according to clear instructions and guidance
Support Amazon representation at appropriate levels with governmental agencies and throughout the company
Assist in reviewing environmental permitting requirements for new power generation technologies, including both prime power generation and back up emergency power for data centers
Support identification of permitting implications of both onsite and offsite power generation and supply to data centers (in front of and behind meter)
Assist in identifying applicable climate/energy regulations and implications on development of both traditional natural gas power generation and alternative/clean energy solutions
Work collaboratively with energy, design engineering, public policy, capacity delivery, real estate, due diligence, and legal teams on well-defined project components
Basic knowledge of natural gas and hydrogen based energy generation preferred
Basic understanding of Title V, NANSR, and PSD air permitting in the US
Interest in data center permitting and compliance

This role's primary focus is to support environmental air quality engineering activities and assist with compliance systems that support AWS growth in the Americas within your assigned regional location. You will work with partner teams throughout the data center development lifecycle under guidance to support sustainable air quality development and design and to ensure compliance with local, state and federal air regulations. You will complete tasks according to clear instructions and guidance while building your knowledge of evolving air quality permitting regulations.

- 3+ years' with air quality regulatory assessments and air emissions evaluations, serving as an environmental technical resource or program specialist
- 3+ years' with air permitting at local, state (e.g., minor source/synthetic minor source), and federal (e.g. Title V, NSR, PSD) levels
- 2+ years' with engine specific regulations including 40 CFR 63 Subpart ZZZZ and 40 CFR 60 Subpart IIII
- Experience leading change in multiple site environments and the ability to influence those that are not direct reports or within your organization
- Good organizational and project management skills
- Strong interpersonal skills: excellent communication skills, strong relationship builder, solid influencing and negotiation skills, and the ability to coach at multiple levels

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $83,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
