Entry Level Environmental Scientist
JOB SUMMARY
An entry level Environmental Scientist is responsible for learning and providing scientific interpretation and analysis to support projects. Work is performed in collaboration with service area managers under the general supervision of the Senior Geology Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop and compile comprehensive written reports to document field activities, data interpretations, and conclusions
Design and implement soil and waste management plans to support environmental projects
Create geologic cross-sections and potentiometric surface maps for site assessments
Review, edit, and maintain boring logs to ensure data accuracy and completeness
Develop and refine conceptual site models to visualize environmental conditions
Conduct hydrogeologic evaluations and modeling to assess groundwater movement and contamination risks
Perform research to support environmental investigations and regulatory compliance
Serve as a technical resource for environmental evaluations involving soil, water, and vapor assessments
Assist in closure project planning, ensuring adherence to environmental standards
Contribute to the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures for geology-related data collection and analysis
Provide support to other service areas, including fieldwork as needed
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Learn job-related material primarily through verbal instruction, training, and observation in an on-the-job setting
Strong attention to detail
Ability to adapt to shifting workflows
Ability to learn new concepts quickly
Skills in time keeping and appropriate billing
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education: B.S. in environmental science, geology or related field
Recommended Experience: 0 - 1 year of experience in environmental consulting, at least 6 months of fieldwork experience
Skills: Strong computer and verbal/written communication skills are a must
Certifications: 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Site Operation (HAZWOPER) (Beneficial but not required prior to employment)
Additional requirements: Must have a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and physically capable of operating vehicles safely
This classification requires travel to various client locations. Travel typically involves day trips within the state or neighboring states, resulting in longer workdays; and may include extended and/or further travel, resulting in multiple days and overnights. Long-distance drives and air travel may be required.
*Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
