Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector is seeking an Environmental Engineer or Scientist to join our Environmental, Health, Safety, and Fire Protection team at the BWI site in Baltimore, Maryland . The selected applicant will be responsible for successfully implementing and managing environmental compliance programs and supporting health and safety programs.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Develops, implements, and maintains environmental compliance programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and internal policies.

  • Maintains and performs tasks for the following environmental compliance programs: synthetic minor operating permit, NESHAP 6H, NESHAP 6W, fuel burning NSPS and NESHAPs, refrigerant regulations, Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) permit to construct (PTC) applications.

  • Perform chemical and material reviews for applicable environmental program compliance.

  • Supports and performs tasks for the following environmental compliance programs: Spill Prevention Controls and Counter Measures (SPCC), Stormwater, Air, Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), Underground and Aboveground Storage Tanks (UST/AST), Pollution Prevention, Department of Transportation (DOT), Sustainability, hazardous waste management for a large quantity generator.

  • Conducts internal compliance inspections to identify actions necessary to meet regulatory requirements.

  • Partners with management to continuously improve the culture, awareness and accountability in support of EHS programs.

  • Partners with engineers, scientists, and management to support the integration of EHS into the design of new or altered processes and operations and building construction projects.

  • Interfaces with regulatory representatives, senior management, the site EHS Committee, and the Emergency Response, and Crisis Management teams.

  • Provides timely and accurate submission of necessary reports to internal stakeholders, electronic databases and regulatory agencies.

  • Reviews and interprets existing and proposed environmental regulations to determine applicability and impact to site.

  • Reviews new construction and renovation plans for EHS aspects.

  • Writes and updates EHS plans and procedures with focus of environmental compliance.

  • Performs in-person and develops online EHS training for employees and management focused on environmental compliance programs.

  • Supports the sites health, safety, and fire protection programs.

  • Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvements and to develop and implement more efficient and enhanced programs.

The position can be filled at a Level 2 or 3.

Basic Qualifications for Level 2:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field, and a minimum of 2 years of experience in environmental compliance programs.

  • Experience in implementing compliance programs related to requirements in the Clean Air Act (CAA) with a focus on air regulations in the state of Maryland.

  • Experience in other environmental compliance programs such as Spill Prevention Controls and Counter Measures (SPCC), Stormwater, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), Underground and Aboveground Storage Tanks (UST/AST), Pollution Prevention, Department of Transportation (DOT), Sustainability.

  • Experience conducting internal compliance inspections in environmental programs.

  • Experience in conducting in person training and developing online training for various environmental compliance related topics to various types of audience.

  • Experience overseeing third party consultants/contractors.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.

  • (U.S. Citizenship required).

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field, and a minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental compliance programs; or a Master's degree and minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental compliance programs.

  • Experience in implementing compliance programs related to requirements in the Clean Air Act (CAA) with a focus on air regulations in the state of Maryland.

  • Experience in other environmental compliance programs such as Spill Prevention Controls and Counter Measures (SPCC), Stormwater, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA, Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), Underground and Aboveground Storage Tanks (UST/AST), Pollution Prevention, Department of Transportation (DOT), Sustainability.

  • Experience conducting internal compliance inspections in environmental programs.

  • Experience in conducting in person training and developing online training for various environmental compliance related topics to various types of audience.

  • Experience overseeing third party consultants/contractors.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in environmental engineering.

  • RCRA and DOT training.

  • Experience in implementing compliance programs related to requirements in the Clean Air Act (CAA).

  • Experience with supporting EHS programs for manufacturing and construction operations.

  • Excellent computer-based skills specifically with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point programs.

  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint and Tableau.

  • Experience in interacting with a union labor workforce.

Salary Range: $77,600.00 - $116,400.00Salary Range 2: $95,800.00 - $143,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
