Overview POSITION SUMMARY The purpose of this position is to provide maintenance of environmental Infection Control with acceptable levels of bacteriological, as well as visual cleanliness throughout the hospital/medical facility. Work hours are 24-hour coverage rotational, day or night shifts, weekends, holidays and occasionally overtime. Qualifications NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Diploma or GED Experience: Three (3) months of general housekeeping experience using common housecleaning implements such as mops, floor waxes and scouring pads to keep areas clean and well serviced Other Skills and Abilities: A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas: Positive working relationships with others Possession of high ethical standards and no history of complaints Reliable and dependable; reports to work as scheduled without excessive absences Proper techniques for protecting self and patients from pathogenic agents Understands the standards and precautions of infection control Must have the ability to read, write, understand and follow written and verbal instructions Must be able to work with little or no supervision Must have a current valid driver's license without restrictions and maintained throughout employment Completion of and above-satisfactory scores on all job interviews, demonstrating to the satisfaction of the interviewees and TCRHCC that the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job Successful completion of and positive results from all background and reference checks, including positive employment references from authorized representatives of past and current employers demonstrating to the satisfaction of TCRHCC a record of satisfactory performance and that the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job Successful completion of fingerprint clearance requirements, physical examinations, and other screenings indicating that the applicant is qualified to be employed by TCRHCC and demonstrating to the satisfaction of TCRHCC that the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job Submission of all required employment-related documents, applications, resumes, references, and other required information free of false, misleading or incomplete information, as determined by TCRHCC. MENTAL AND PHYSICAL EFFORT The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical: This position requires the ability to prolonged periods (3/4 workday) of standing and walking; frequently (1/2 workday) bending, twisting, maintaining balance and reaching; occasionally (less than day) sitting, driving, climbing, kneeling, and crouching. The Incumbent must have the sensory ability for prolonged use of near vision and seeing fine details; and must be able to frequently use depth perception. The Incumbent may be required to occasionally have the sensory ability for far vision, color vision, the hearing norm speech, hearing overhead pages on loudspeaker, and telephone use. Incumbent must have the hand manipulation prolonged ability for simple grasping, occasional ability for firm grasping, fine manipulation, and use of keyboards. This position does require the prolonged ability to lift up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift more than 11lbs to lift up to and above 100 pounds using correct judgment, assistance and body mechanics. Physical effort is required continuously in the performance of manual cleaning tasks. Incumbent must be able to perform prolonged periods of repetitive motion actions using both feet and hands. Mental: Incumbent must be able to prioritize and use good judgment. The incumbent must have the mental and emotional ability to frequently concentrate on tasks at hand and demonstrate a high degree of patience. The incumbent may occasionally need the ability to cope with high levels of stress; make decisions under high pressure; cope with anger/fear/hostility of others in a calm way; manage altercations; handle a high degree of flexibility; handle multiple priorities in a stressful situation; work alone; adapt to shift work; and work in an area that are close and crowded. Incumbent must frequently accept a flexible schedule to meet unit needs. Environmental: The incumbent may have prolonged environmental exposure to chemical agents; and, occasionally infectious diseases, dust, fumes, gases; extremes in temperature or humidity; hazardous or moving equipment; unprotected heights, and loud noises. Position can expect to work over the time in wet, humid non-weather related. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Disinfects patient exam rooms, bathrooms, offices, hallways, water fountains, and other assigned areas daily to prevent cross contamination. Scrubs and disinfects commodes, urinals, washstands, fixtures, water fountains, and mirrors. Replenishes paper supplies, liquid hand soap and hand sanitizers in dispensers daily. Cleans venetian blinds, wash walls, vents, windows and glass partitions, and other assigned areas. Vacuums, dust mops, mop floors, daily. Extract carpets and polish floors as needed. May strip and wax floors as necessary or as directed by immediate Supervisor. Disinfects room thoroughly after patient has been discharged. Special cleaning on isolation exam rooms after patients are discharged using proper antiseptic techniques. Receives hospital clean linen deliveries; maintains a system of linen control and distribution; delivers clean linen to patient's areas as requisitioned. Collects soiled linen, regular waste, Bio-hazardous waste, sharp containers, and pharmaceutical waste and Chemo waste, and delivers to appropriate holding area. Minor maintenance work such as: unclogging a latrine, changing light bulbs, water fountains, patch work on walls, painting, hoeing weeds, picking trash outside and installing paper towels, liquid soap, and hand sanitizers dispensers. Removing snow and de-icing sidewalks. Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. Training well be provided. Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee and external customer satisfaction. Ensure Proper PPE is worn as necessary, including but not limited to, face mask, gloves, gown, isolation gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering facepiece respirator or higher, if available), and eye or face shield. Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee, and external customer satisfaction.
