Environmental Scientist
Job Description

We are seeking enthusiastic Junior Level Environmental Scientists to join our dynamic team in Bartow. This role involves supporting a variety of Emergency Response, Remediation, and environmental due diligence projects, with a focus on fieldwork comprising 75% of the time and office work for the remaining 25%.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct fieldwork using hand augers and various tools to obtain soil, sediment, water, waste, and wastewater samples.
  • Perform tasks outdoors under diverse climatic conditions and work around hazardous materials.
  • Engage in environmental site investigation and remediation work, including soil and groundwater sampling, vapor intrusion investigation, remedial investigation, design, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Maintain test equipment and work area, ensuring cleanliness and functionality, including equipment modification and calibration.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain mechanical remediation systems and monitoring systems.
  • Conduct environmental sampling and document field activities in field notebooks and field graphics, including groundwater sampling logs, well completion logs, and soil logs.
  • Oversee the work of subcontractors such as construction and water well contractors, laboratories, and others.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports based on field notes, laboratory report interpretations, and other data, including source removal and site assessment.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in water sampling and environmental science.
  • Experience in environmental site assessment and remediation.
  • Knowledge of Hazwoper regulations and groundwater management.
  • Ability to write detailed reports and handle hazardous waste and materials.
  • Skills in soil sampling and environmental site assessments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or a related physical science.
  • Experience with environmental site assessments, remediation, and/or emergency response.
  • Valid Florida Drivers License.
  • Availability for some overnight travel within Florida.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, judgment, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Understanding of environmental regulations related to contaminated sites and drinking water.
  • Proficiency in using computers for data access, input, and review in spreadsheets, tables, graphs, and software programs.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for interacting with clients, agency personnel, and the public.
Work Environment

Initially, you will come to the office each day before heading out to the field, participating in pre-con meetings. As you gain experience, there is flexibility to drive directly to project sites when logistically practical. Most fieldwork involves daily travel, with occasional projects requiring overnight stays throughout Florida. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $31.00/hr.
