About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Lead Environmental Consultant to join our Environmental team within Real Estate Valuation Services (REVS). This role is pivotal in driving environmental risk management initiatives, supporting leadership, and ensuring quality and consistency across complex commercial real estate transactions. As a key leader, you will influence enterprise-wide decisions, mentor technical staff, and shape the environmental risk appetite and procedures for domestic and international lending.

In this role, you will:

  • Support a team of Environmental managers and individual contributors in roles with moderate to high complexity and risk who conduct environmental due diligence reviews ensuring customer service and quality standards, while driving a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy.
  • Serve as a management backup. Provide critical support during high-volume periods and leadership absences, ensuring continuity in vendor approvals, escalations, and secondary reviews.
  • Drive strategic initiatives and partner leadership. Represent the Environmental team as a subject matter expert in REVS Commercial initiatives, develop environmental risk appetite for domestic and international markets, and maintain key partner relationships.
  • Evaluate and review third party consultant environmental due diligence reports for adequacy and conformance to industry standards, Wells Fargos risk tolerance, and transaction type. Assist with overflow production work and portfolio reviews.
  • Perform Secondary Reviews and lead quality assurance. Conduct advanced environmental reviews for complex transactions, mentor primary reviewers, and ensure compliance with internal control procedures. Develop and administer Quality Assurance program.
  • Oversee operational and technical enhancements. Lead system of record enhancements, create dashboards with analytics teams, and implement robotic process automation.
  • Influence and collaborate across the enterprise. Work closely with senior leadership, initiative leads, and partners to align environmental strategies with business goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and interpret policies and procedures to ensure all comply within government regulations and Bank policies and maintain appropriate records and documents under specified security control. Lead individual contributors as needed to accomplish goals.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement and risk control development within Environmental functional area.
  • Determine appropriate strategy to resolve issues regarding resources, objectives, operations, and provide technical consulting within the Environmental functional area and team.
  • Manage vendor panels to ensure geographic coverage and knowledge specialties.
  • Assist with training of new hires.

This position is 100% remote.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of construction or environmental engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) qualifications in line with E1527 or E2018

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or higher Degree (Environmental/Engineering/Geology) with progressive experience and responsibilities in the fields of environmental risk management in banking, including development/management of staff and/or leading cross-functional team initiatives

  • Environmental Bankers Association (EBA), Environmental Risk Manager Certificate
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of environmental risk management lending issues for complex domestic and international transactions
  • Demonstrated ability to review and evaluate highly complex environmental issues, including quantification of remedial costs and schedules, and determining scope of work for Phase II investigations to assess soil, soil vapor, groundwater, and vapor intrusion issues
  • Experience and expertise in supporting Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities (CMBS), Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, and GSE-related (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HUD) transactions
  • Experience with development and/or administration of QA/QC programs related to environmental risk management staff
  • Excellent organizational skills, and verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with proven experience articulating issues, risks, and proposed solutions in actionable business terms to various levels of staff and management
  • Advanced software skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook), CoPilot, and Collateral 360.
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and across all organizational levels, where flexibility, collaboration, and adaptability are important
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision in a structured environment

Chicago pay range: $110,000-$179,000

Sacramento pay range: $120,000-$196,000
