Ohio EPA wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in the Division of Environmental and Financial Assistance (DEFA) at our Central Office in Columbus, Ohio.

We are looking for an organized, results-focused individual to implement DEFA's air quality improvement grant programs provided through the Diesel Mitigation Trust Fund (DMTF) and Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA). These impactful programs fund the replacement and repowering of various on-road and off-road vehicles, as well as heavy equipment, to significantly reduce emissions.

Your tasks include assisting interested parties in applying for grants and conducting technical and administrative review of completed applications based on program criteria and calculated emission reductions. Based on your review, you'll recommend projects for funding.

You'll monitor grant projects and provide customer support to grantees to ensure adherence to program standards and successful project implementation. When necessary, you'll observe equipment installation and destruction of old vehicles to ensure compliance with program requirements. You'll review and maintain project documentation such as modification requests, progress reports, closing reports, emissions reductions, and charger usage reports.

  • Implement air quality improvement grant projects for DMTF and DERA programs
  • Travel to project sites throughout Ohio.
  • Conduct technical and administrative reviews of resulting grant applications.
  • Monitor and evaluate grant projects to ensure adherence to program standards.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to grantees, other agency divisions and state agencies, industry representatives and the public.

  • 12 mos. exp. as Environmental Specialist 1, 85861.
  • OR 4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in a position involving engineering (Civil, Environmental, or Chemical), pollution control grant programs or air quality monitoring or modeling. Training & experience must be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
  • OR baccalaureate degree (Engineering, Natural Sciences, Environmental Sciences or Environmental Planning)
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
