Environmental Scientist Jobs in Texas
An Environmental Scientist plays a crucial role in the environmental industry by conducting research and analysis to identify, abate, or eliminate sources of pollutants or hazards affecting the environment or public health. They utilize their knowledge of various scientific disciplines to collect, study, report, and recommend action based on data derived from measurements or observations of air, food, soil, water, and other sources. Their work includes developing plans to prevent, control, or fix environmental problems, like land or water pollution. They may also conduct theoretical or applied research to enhance understanding of environmental issues and contribute toward policy formulation.
Significant skills required by an Environmental Scientist include critical thinking, complex problem solving, decision making, and strong communication skills. Familiarity with Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, statistical software, and environmental sampling is often required. They should also have a strong understanding of laws and regulations related to the environment and public safety. A degree in Environmental Science or a related field, such as Biology, Chemistry, or Physics, is typically mandatory. Additionally, professional certification like Certified Environmental Scientist (CES) or Environmental Professional Certification can be beneficial. Prior to becoming an Environmental Scientist, a person may work as an Environmental Technician, Research Assistant, or Environmental Consultant.
